Brittany Penhors Surf School

Since 2003, the ESB of Penhors, one of the most beautiful surf schools in France, welcomes you all year round in the new Nautical Centre located 10 metres from the beach. Its commitment is validated by all the institutions of French and Breton surfing, which have awarded it the Labels: École de Surf de Bretagne and École Française de Surf. A quality service provided by state-certified instructors with more than 20 years of experience is offered.

Children or adults, you want to learn or improve your surfing, bodyboarding or Stand Up Paddle? The instructors will be delighted to teach you, to share their passion for surfing and to help you discover a rich environment in an authentic setting classified Natura 2000.

Quality equipment renewed every year is offered to you (a range of 50 boards, 4/3mm Quicksilver combinations).

Prices include instruction led by a qualified instructor at all levels, equipment rental (board and 4/3 mm wetsuit), and use of changing rooms. (Federation license) Insurance is included in all courses.

CLASSES AND TRAINING

The Bretagne Surf School in Penhors is open from April to November and offers surfing, bodyboarding, and stand up paddle lessons for all levels. We primarily offer sessions and courses during all school vacation periods, but feel free to contact us to organize lessons outside of those times. We are here and available to teach you to surf or perfect your technique and share our passion with you. The courses are taught by state-certified instructors with more than 10 years of experience for fast learning. The FFS license is included in the price. Contact the school for information on the quarterly club formula on Saturdays or Wednesdays. Note that all courses include the loan of equipment (board, wetsuit, leash, fax). After your course, you have the possibility to rent the equipment!

Stand Up paddle

The Bretagne Surf School in Penhors also provides 2 ways to learn or enhance your stand up paddleboarding skills. This recently popular water sport involves standing on a large surfboard while using a paddle and is accessible for surfing waves.

  Je recommande très vivement cette école de surf. Nous avons suivi 3 séances de 2 heures la semaine dernière, accompagnés par la bienveillance, la pédagogie et la sympathie de Victor qui est un excellent moniteur. Très attentif avec ses "élèves".   Découverte du surf pour moi. Malgré des conditions météo difficiles la qualité de l'accompagnement et l'enthousiasme des moniteurs ont permis de réaliser ma première glisse debout.

  They advertise surf lessons with German speaking teacher, but actually not the group courses for 45 EUR, only private lessons for 100 EUR - very dissapointing. They truely told me that my son (10 years) could join a group course with an English speaking teacher and I could stay close to the beach for two ours to translate - no joke…

  Super location to learn surfing. The school is situated directly at the beach so you don't have to carry the boards very far. The lady in the office speaks french and english very well. You have the opportunity to rent wetsuits and boards.
The reason why i only give 3 stars although the school, the location and the goodwill deserve 5 stars, is that the behavior of our trainer was far from acceptable from my point of view. In advance, I specificly asked for lessons in english twice before arriving as my boyfriend is not fluent in french. However, when arriving, the trainer asked me to translate his instructions for my boyfriend as well as a unrelated group of 4 german kids! Granted, I agreed to translate as I do speak French quite passable and was eager to learn to surf. The first day passed and everything worked kind of ok, although I was lacking instructions from his side and did not find the lesson particularly focussed. On the following
day, though I was asked by the trainer if I do not understand him properly as I made the same mistake several times (as a beginner). He then went on complain that it is so stressfull for him to first speak in french and then repeat it in english to make sure I get it and that the kids don't stay as a group around him (I mean they are kids on holidays!). I have to admit that this spoiled the fun for me. Obviously, our trainer was asked too much of, but I payed money to be proper trained and not to be treated like this especially when doing the translation for him!
In response, we cancelled our third lesson and just borrowed wetsuits and boards.
